[Question 1] What is the difference between read-only CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and recordable CD-ROM, DVD-ROM?
[Answer] The former refers to those discs in which information has already been stored in advance and is unchangeable, which in the latter discs, there is no information and one can write on contents. Some discs may be recorded and rewrited for many times. Furthermore, the former is easier to be preserved and the time for storage is much longer. A master is necessary if a large-scale replication of the former is to be made. If one wants to make discs in a small quantity or by a single piece, the latter is much more economic.

[Question 2] Is the CD-R or DVD-R we provide not a master? Why another master needs to be made for replication?
[Answer] The master is made from metallic nickel, for the purpose of acting as a mold for producing son discs. On the surface of the master, all information has been recorded by pits and lands. A high-quality master is the pre-condition for replicating high-quality son discs. Please press colored words to browse for detailed materials regarding master and its equipment.

[Question 3] Why does a 'film' need to be made first before the disc surface printing?
[Answer] Since a plate needs to be made before printing, during which process the image can only be transferred to the plate with a film. The process of plate making is actually to stick the CMYK film closely to prepared plate so as to exposal, and transfer the film image to the plate. This is why a film needs to be made first before the printing.

[Question 4] When a disc surface design is finished, an output of printing film is necessary, which one is better? Offset printing or silk screen printing?
[Answer] Advantages of offset printing: 175-line film output, a finer image can be achieved. This method applies to complicated images such as human, flower and scene, etc.
Advantages of silk screen printing: thicker layer of ink, brighter color, stereoscopic. This method applies to simple images such as lines, color blocks and characters, etc.

[Question 5] How to preserve master?
[Answer] The master needs to be preserved properly. Normally, it has to be put into a special master box and be stored in a clarification room, or stored with its information surface spread with protective glue. The life span of a master is to be decided by three factors: normally, the number of replications out of a master is 70,000 to 80,000 pieces, but the more a master is put on the machine, the shorter the life span of it will be. The storage period of a master never being used is 2 to 3 years. If the time of storage of the master is too long without being used, the replication parameter will be much influenced.
